River Valley between the watchful eye of the second
largest granite rock formation in the world and
the scenic Du Toit's Kloof Mountains. Visit the
Afrikaans language monument. Continue to Franschhoek
- originally known as "Olifants Hoek",
after elephants took to calving in the sheltered
valley of plentiful food and water.
Between 1688 and 1690 land was apportioned to
200 Huguenots fleeing persecution in France, finding
the climate similar to that of France the settlers
planted vines. Today, 20 members of the Vignerons
produce wines consumed throughout the world.

slopes. The Stellenbosch Wine Route, synonymous

and white wines, established in April 1971 and
is comprised today of 29 cellars. Wine tasting
